Yueji Yoga is a minimalist space located in Jiujiang, China, designed by XYH Design. The project at hand was tasked with a dual challenge: to accommodate an ample number of classrooms to serve its members while also crafting a sanctuary that allows individuals to detach from the banalities of everyday life. In response, the architects introduced a central circular division within the public area. This strategic placement serves a dual purpose; it delineates a zone for rest while orchestrating a symmetrical passage that segregates the tranquil resting area from the activity of the classrooms. Such an arrangement ensures a harmonious coexistence of dynamic and serene spaces, allowing for an uninterrupted flow of practice and relaxation.

Material selection played a pivotal role in achieving the intended atmosphere of the space. The design team opted for natural materials, with a particular emphasis on the use of brightly colored wood veneers to accentuate the central circular divide. This choice not only aids in directing movement within the space but also introduces a lively and engaging color palette that enhances the overall spatial experience. To complement this, a recurring linear motif is implemented across the ceiling and floor, paired with a minimalist approach to the wall treatments. This juxtaposition of elements is aimed at capturing the equilibrium between tension and relaxation, a core principle of the “Breath and Respiration” concept that guides the entire project.
