ZWS Studio is a minimalist studio by the Warsaw-based interior architecture practice Zofia Wyganowska Studio. Serving as the office for the design team, as well as a space to host client meetings and occasional exhibitions, the design of ZWS reflects the studio’s broader approach, which founder Zofia Wyganowska describes as “respecting what already exists while introducing a contemporary layer, and bringing together craftsmanship, art, vintage objects and modern design without erasing the history of a place.” 

Situated in a tenement house in the center of the Polish capital, the 100 square-meter (1,076 square-foot) studio boasts an array of historic design details that Wyganowska and her team chose to preserve in the renovation: original parquet flooring, box windows, and decorative ceiling mouldings that were carefully restored by a conservator. To complement the pre-existing charm of the space, the studio is furnished with antique and vintage pieces, as well as custom-made and contemporary furniture and decor. Materials such as marble, wood, and metal also come together in the space to introduce a sense of tactility and visual appeal, while upholstered pinboards and material swatches throughout showcase the studio’s design process and foster creative exchange. 

With the design of their own studio office, Zofia Wyganowska Studio demonstrates its keen ability to embrace the dialogue between the old and the new, creating a versatile space that supports both work and creativity, allowing the practice to host visitors and showcase its design approach in physical form.
