Maurice is a minimal furniture series created by China-based designer TELLS STUDIO. Tells Studio has deconstructed traditional chair elements, replacing them with an ingenious structural design of their own. The chair features a base of black solid wood, reminiscent of volcanic rock, intricately connected in a three-dimensional lattice by visible and invisible stainless steel lines. This chosen juxtaposition of materials ensures the dark wood’s massiveness is tempered, preventing it from feeling too imposing. The unique element of this chair is the gap running seamlessly through the backrest and the seat. Far from a mere aesthetic statement, it has been designed to promote a comfortable sitting experience, once again demonstrating the studio’s commitment to harmonizing form and function. The stainless steel elements in this piece serve a dual purpose. Besides providing structural support, they lend the chair a distinguished, understated elegance.
