Casa Areca is a minimal space located in Tulum, Mexico, designed by CO-LAB Design Office. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Yucatan, each project encourages a greater connection to the natural world through design. Embracing sustainable principles, each project carefully weaves the architectural program with the beauty of each site to create unique contextual designs. Locally sourced natural materials and handcrafted finishes render rooms built around views of nature, gentle breezes, light and shadows, to create new compositions and relationships.
In the case of Casa Areca, the home embraces its tropical surroundings via a series of large glazings that open up the interior to the outdoor space. An abundance of greenery provides a peaceful atmosphere without interrupting the minimalist context of the interior aesthetic. The home utilizes an array of solar panels to assist in providing electricity. Many of the furnishings were produced in collaboration with local artisans, and fabricated within Mexico.
