The Châtelet Apartment is a minimalist residence by the Paris-based architecture practice PS Studio. Located in the heart of Paris, the 45 square meter (484 square foot) apartment is designed as a quiet retreat within one of the city’s most active neighborhoods. The project maximizes its compact footprint while offering a sense of calm and reflection, balancing spatial efficiency with a restrained, tactile atmosphere.
The design is guided by a clear and fluid spatial strategy, with the layout offering continuous circulation around the kitchen and dining areas, forming an “infinite loop” that expands the perception of space within the apartment. This movement is reinforced by the careful placement of furniture, which reveals itself gradually and encourages a slow exploration of the interior.
Meanwhile, materiality plays a central role in shaping the space. Exposed wooden beams contrast with clean, modern cabinetry and horizontal planes. A sanded and varnished screed floor adds a subtle texture, reflecting light and enhancing the apartment’s brightness. The palette remains largely white, allowing these raw elements to stand out, while metal accents appear in furniture details such as chairs, coffee table legs, and cabinetry handles.
Moments of color are introduced sparingly, with a yellow sofa in the living area and green tiles in the bathroom, bringing warmth and character to the otherwise restrained interior. Together, these elements create a space that feels both minimal and expressive, reflecting PS Studio’s approach to design, where material honesty and thoughtful planning come together to create spaces that are functional and atmospheric.
