House SSJC is a minimal home located in Brooklyn, New York, designed by STUDIO OINK, with architectural build by Hatchet. They had already contacted Hatchet on site, who took care of all architectural issues as well as everything structural and all things requiring approval. The studio worked hand in hand with Hatchet. Hatchet already had a draft for the floor plan, which they then checked and adjusted. Hatchet had already developed the idea of the mezzanine. They then dealt with making the rooms look wider and more open and creating interesting lines of sight through meaningful openings. The designers have also dealt with the structure, materials and colors and developed a calm color and material palette. Due to Covid, the building materials suddenly became very expensive, which meant that many beautiful details that we had planned for the interior work could unfortunately no longer be implemented for financial reasons. Despite everything, in the end many of our ideas were implemented and some unconventional materials were used. The studio also designed many of the furniture and objects for this project themselves, had them manufactured here in Germany and sent them to the USA.
