Richard House is a minimal residence located in Dallas, Texas, designed by Object & Architecture, with interiors by Nitsche Creative. In Vickery Place, a historic inner-city neighborhood characterized by craftsman style homes from the early 20th century, architectural regulations pose a unique challenge for new construction. These strict design rules dictate the exterior style, ensuring a cohesive look throughout the area. Recently, an innovative solution emerged that marries the client’s desire for a modern, open, and inviting home with the neighborhood’s traditional sensibilities. The newly constructed residence draws inspiration from the architectural elements of its historic surroundings, including porches, color palettes, and formal floorplans. By reinterpreting these features, the design team has created a home that seamlessly blends contemporary lifestyle and building methods with the time-honored character of Vickery Place. This thoughtful approach ensures that the neighborhood’s architectural integrity remains intact, while allowing for modern living and design preferences.
