TN16 Studio Collective is a minimal space located in Copenhagen, Denmark, designed by Johansen Skovsted, Djernes&Bell and Kim Lenshow. In order to retain the historical charm of the structure, the renovation was carried out with a focus on repairing and restoring existing features rather than introducing an abundance of new materials or fixtures. The teams diligently renovated the internal surfaces and woodwork, adopting an approach that honored the building’s original spirit. The updated interior design features a mix of restored and repainted surfaces, providing a fresh yet historically aware backdrop for the collaborative creative work. The designers have been particularly clever in their furniture choices.

Opting for an economical yet stylish solution, they assembled modular furniture using scaffolding and archival storage systems. The tabletops, crafted from lumber board and treated with locally-sourced linseed oils, add a note of authenticity and connection to the surrounding environment. The meeting room table, assembled from the remaining off-cut timber, reflects a philosophy of sustainable use and resourcefulness. A chosen archival shelving system seamlessly integrates with those used in the studios’ previous offices, while woolen curtains made from fabric that failed to pass quality-control inspections provide both a sustainable and practical solution for partitioning workspaces. These curtains serve as gentle dividers between the model workshop, entrance area, and the “tegnesal” or drawing hall.
